One of the most significant British pop acts of the twenty-first century
With seven UK number-one singles, six top-ten albums, seven arena tours, and ten million records sold worldwide, McFly are without question one of the most significant British pop acts of the twenty-first century. Since hitting the big time as the youngest band ever to have a debut album go straight to number one — beating The Beatles’ long-standing record — Tom, Danny, Dougie and Harry have become one of our best-loved bands, not to mention major stars in their own right.
Outside of McFly Tom has become a bestselling children’s author; Danny a TV mainstay with his regular appearances as a coach on The Voice Kids; Dougie formed the alternative-rock band INK and is a passionate environmental campaigner; and Strictly winner Harry is often seen presenting on The One Show sofa, as well as starring in the hit dance show Rip it Up.
In 2019 McFly announced their return to touring with a sold-out, one-off night at the O2 in November 2019 and a UK and Brazil Arena Tour due to happen in March and May 2020. Obviously, things changed and Covid 19 forced the guys to stay at home, which was devastating for fans who were eager to see them live, but it didn’t stop McFly from connecting with their fans through music. They wrote, recorded, promoted and released their sixth album Young Dumb Thrills throughout 2020 despite all obstacles. Performances on Graham Norton, Britain’s Got Talent, and Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway, as well as A-List records across Radio 2, saw Young Dumb Thrills enter the chart at No.2, second only to the biggest-selling album of the year form AC/DC.
Fast forward to the summer of 2021 and McFly could be seen up and down the country playing at glorious Summer Festivals as the UK was finally able to host live music again. The band were on top form and crowds jubilantly sang along to McFly classics as well as new tracks ‘Happiness’ and ‘Tonight Is The Night’. The long-awaited Young Dumb Thrills tour also had its moment of glory in September 2021, 11 dates of pure un-adulterated pop punk fun with a giant pink teddy bear to add to the spectacle.
This all culminates in Power To Play, a record where the fun really is at the forefront. There's hair metal cheese, glam rock glitter, heavy metal attitude and punk snottiness, all wrapped tightly into a carefree and cartoonish shell. There are hints of Van Halen, Metallica, Poison, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, and even a bit of Fugazi thrown in for good measure. Produced by Danny alongside Jason Perry, with help from friends old and new James Bay and Steven Battelle, it is a record built on pure collaboration bringing the best out of everyone.

The bands/groups were amazing McFly 👌 Sam rider 🚀 But the venue 👎🏽👎🏽 Paid for the VIP tickets "no queues" we got in early as asked so were was no queues anyway. We were put in the corner where there was 10 or so benches to sit on right at the back, so you couldn't sit there and wait because you would never get close to the stage when McFly came on. I didn't get a drink or food so can't comment on those! So the ONLY plus point was you didn't have to wait too long to use the toilet. Then when it was time to leave, you are over the far side so have to wait to get out because there's 3/4 thousand people closer to the exit than you and there's only one way out. So all in all bands great venue 6 out of 10 and the VIP 3 out of 10. Not worth the money imo.
Amazing night, fantastic band. McFly were amazing!! I cannot recommend enough to see this band live.
Gig as always was awesome and with ample support acts prior to McFly to fill the gap from getting into the venue to the headline act. As has been the experience with a couple of events recently I feel paying for the VIP Priorty tickets was frankly pointless and how venues can justify the extra cost just for extra vendors and toilets is very poor. Purchased the VIP tickets based on events last year where VIP had their own section right at the front which then lead onto the extra vendors & facilities so once you were in you had the best views and easy acces to extra facilities. This however was a bit poor and a few in the queue had the same gripe. As others we had queue prior to gates opening to get a good spot. We first had a load of others who were in the queue behind us ushered to the front and the lack or organisation meant standard ticket holders on other side who had also queued had pretty much all gained access before all the priority. This wouldn't have been so bad if the VIP section was at the front like most other venues so we could get to the front and have the better views however this was only a small section to the SIDE of the stage which was pretty poor. Barrier seemed a fair distance away from the stage which all the acts commented on so not sure why the VIP section couldn't have been extened into their. Still an awesome gig and great line up. Just feel charging extra for VIP requires more justification that just extra vendors/toilets or just don't have the option at all which would have been fairer.
Wow what can I say! The Piece Hall rocked! Staff were so polite and friendly, such an incredible place to have a gig. Mcfly were absolutely amazing as always. Loved it. Please come back next year 😊
An amazing night. The band themselves were absolutely fantastic. Loved the energy and enthusiasm they brought with every song and in between. Really chill as well. The warm up acts were amazing as well. Hadn't heard of some of them but I definitely won't forget them.
Band were amazing, however the venue was awful entrance was my the stage so everyone had to push pass to get to a spot in front of the stage, access to the assessable platform was none existent, organisation none existent, very amateurish. Will not be going to this venue again
It was fab, the piece hall is an amazing venue. It is unique and getting a name for itself. Mcfly rocked it. 🙌
Absolutely fabulous from start to finish from entry to exit. All staff we encountered were polite and friendly. Will definitely be back again.
