The Reading rock outfit making waves since 2014

The Amazons are back with their thundering fourth studio album 21st Century Fiction. The band have also announced they will be hitting the road in Autumn 2025 for a run of UK headline dates with shows at The Albert Hall in Manchester, London's Roundhouse, SWX in Bristol and more.

Formed of childhood friends Matt Thomson and guitarist Chris Alderton, The Amazons is completed by Elliott Briggs (bass) and Joe Emmett (drums). They hit upon their current sound after being inspired by a Foals gig at Alexandra Palace in 2014 which shifted their perception of what a contemporary rock band could be. They focused their energies on their early influences – Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin – and their music evolved to become heavy, loud and primal.

The Amazons first attracted a whirlwind of attention after uploaded their demo of Something in the Water to SoundCloud. By 2015, their reputation had grown to the extent that they were invited to support The Kooks on their European tour. More accomplishments soon followed: their debut single 'Junk Food Forever' was released on their own Goth Cruise label, while a homecoming set at the Reading Festival’s BBC Introducing stage proved to be a triumphant moment which demonstrated that they’re ready to take on the rest of the world.

Locked down in Brighton, in the case of a newly-moved Matt a mere week after returning from a US tour, The Amazons thought they had their third album already half written. But the prolonged lockdown proved otherwise. After months of seeing his LA - based girlfriend only online, Matt started writing songs for her which he assumed only the pair of them would ever hear.

In late 2020, with the band already cooling on the music they had previously written, Matt sent his bare bones new songs, written alone at home on acoustic guitar, to his bandmates to gauge their opinion. Straight away they knew that he had inadvertently discovered a new direction for The Amazons.

And with that, it all starts here: the boys hit the road immediately with a UK arena tour supporting friends Royal Blood this month, followed by a summer of festivals and a huge newly-announced UK tour in October which will see the band headline London’s Roundhouse. The Amazons are a band unleashed and How Will I Know If Heaven Will Find Me? is a fresh marker in the sand. A new chapter. The start of something very special.

The band’s fourth studio album, 21st Century Fiction, is the sound of “a man in his late 20s, struggling with unrealistic ideals of masculinity and a sense of unfulfilled promise”, surrounded by “a world plagued by chaos.”

These were songs that Thomson needed to write, not just to lift himself from the doldrums, but for a generation of young males with the same struggles. 21st Century Fiction signals the emergence of The Amazons’ bold new sound – still loaded with riffs and roaring with aggression, but packed with a whole new level of introspection, energy and grandiose. With three huge Top 10 records and sold out shows across the globe under their belts, The Amazons are facing their futures: fired up and ready to go.
